This topic is just a slight detour from the world of Uru Live. Rime is an Age that you can only find in 'Realmyst' and 'Realmyst Masterpiece Edition'.
The Rime Age becomes available after you've met with Atrus in K'veer and have given him the green page. When you link back to Myst island, Atrus will have burnt the red and blue books, trapping his sons in the prison Ages Spire and Haven. You will also find a journal about Rime on the floor, containing new clues to get the Rime linking book. After all that has just transpired here on myst island, how uncharacteristic of Atrus to leave his journal lying on the floor like that...
Following the new instructions in the Rime journal, you should be able to raise the middle section of the library floor, revealing the Rime linking book.
When you link to Rime, you end up on a walkway overlooking an ocean and a few small islands. The towers were built by Atrus to do some experiments. There are also whales here, from time to time you will be able to hear them. The sound that they make will get louder when they get closer. When they are close enough, you should be able to see them swimming between the islands.
Depending on how far away they are, it can take a few minutes before they appear close enough to see them. It is always night in Rime, so it is very difficult to see them in the water below. Listen to their sound to determine how far away they are. When the sound is getting louder, it is time to start looking for them.
There are three whales, one is larger and two are smaller. It is probably the mother and two young ones. I found next to no information at all about the whales. Not even a name for these whales is mentioned anywhere.
The Guild of Archivists website states that the whales cannot be seen in the Masterpiece Edition of Realmyst, but that is not true. The pictures on this page were made using the Realmyst Masterpiece Edition (from Gog). But I have to admit, they are very difficult to see, unless you increase the brightness.
