In the previous part you found the second journey cloth behind debris. It took some acrobatic skills to get there and to get out of the room again. Unfortunately, you will have to do some more acrobatics later on.
Leave the room with the metal beam sticking out of the hole in the floor. Turn left and head through the gate, back to the tunnel where you came from. Walk to the first gate on your left. Go through the open gate and walk to the other side of the tunnel past the three metal beams. Walk through the opening at the end of the tunnel. To the right you see a wooden cart and a wooden door. As far as I know this door won't open, so go to the left into the corridor. Before you enter the corridor you can see a lever. Ignore it for now. (It will not open the wooden door.) Walk through the corridor all the way to the end. You will see another wooden door with a lever next to it. Pull the lever to open de door. Enter the room.
At the end of the room you see some turning gears and to the right is a machine. Walk to the machine first. In the middle of it you will see two levers. Pull the left lever. A hatch opens, revealing the inner parts of the machine. In the lower right corner is something you can click on. It is a picture of one of the lesson Ages from Myst 3: Voltaic. This is the clue for the next puzzle. Press escape to put the picture back in the machine. You could pull the lever on the right too, but there's nothing behind the hatch on the right.
Turn left and walk towards the gears. To the right of the gears is a stone in the shape of a half circle on the wall. From now on, I'll refer to these stones as math stones. There are d'ni numbers inscribed on it. It seems to be some sort of math excercise. It states that three plus two equals six. ( 3 + 2 = 6 ) Not sure what to make of it, other than whoever put that math stone there, must have had troubles with simple math.
Head to the door of the gear room. If you pulled the second lever on the right of the machine that contained the Voltaic picture, then you will have to open the door by pulling the lever to the right of the door. If you did not pull the second lever on the machine then the door will still be open. Walk back through the corridor until you're back in the area with the wooden cart. The opening in the wall is now closed by a metal gate. Pull the lever to the right of the gate to open it. Walk through the opening to the other end of the tunnel. This gate has closed as well. On the wall on the right is another lever. Pull it to open this gate. Walk through the gate and turn right. Head to the gate at the end of the tunnel and go through the metal gate.
In front of you is a hole in the ground with a vase lying on the left side. This hole leads to the lava canals close to the tunnel with the mouse trap. Ignore it for now and turn left. Walk through the tunnel until you come at a junction. Examine each tunnel starting with the rightmost tunnel. (The tunnel on your right.) At the end of this tunnel is another math stone. This one reads: 9 - 6 = 2. Yeah right, just another case of dubious math. Turn around and walk back a few meters. You should see some green vegetation on your left. Behind the vegetation is another somewhat hidden corridor. Walk into the corridor and follow it to the end. It looks like a dead end. On the ground you see a lantern on the floor. Above it is a button on the wall. Press the button and the wall will lower. It won't lower all the way and it immediately raises again. It's some sort of trap door. As you have a Relto book, getting trapped here is not really a problem. Press the button again and when the door is at its lowest point, jump over it.
In the room with the trap door you can see another stone with a symbol on it, a dead body and the third journey cloth. Touch the cloth and walk back to the stone with the symbol on it. Close to the stone you should be able to find a button on the wall that will open the trap door again. It is difficult to see but not impossible to find. It helps to look alongside the wall and look for anything that sticks out. Makes one wonder why the now dead guy did not find it... Anyway, press the button and wait for the door to reach its lowest point, then jump over it to leave the trap door room. Walk out of the corridor until you're back at the tunnel near the math stone. Walk to the left to return to the junction.
At the junction, take the next tunnel on your right. This is a very short one: it ends at a closed gate. Turn around and walk back to the junction. Take the next tunnel on your right. This one is a little longer than the previous one. At the fork by the wooden crate, turn right. Here, you can see another math stone on the wall. This one reads: 4 + 2 = 1. Turn around and head over to the gate on the opposite side of this tunnel. On the left side, just in front of the gate, you should see a piece of paper lying on the ground. Click it to see what it is. This looks like a clue to another puzzle. Write it down somewhere and turn around. Walk back to the junction.
At the junction, take the next tunnel on your right. This is the last one. It starts with a closed gate at your left hand side. Next, also on your left, is a wooden door. Although you can open it, ignore it for now. Next, again on your left, is an open gate. Ignore this gate for now too. The next gate is at your right. This is the gate where you just found the piece of paper with a clue. The next gate is also at your right. This gate is open, so walk into the area behind it. Walk on the left side of the wooden beams around a large hole in the ground. There's nothing of interest at the end of this area so walk around the large hole clockwise until you see a ladder in the hole leading down. Climb down the ladder. On one side of the next room is a closed gate and at the other end, hidden behind large metal beams, the fourth journey cloth.
Jump onto the metal crates and from there to the metal beam on the left side of the room. Walk as far as possible to the left side and try to make the next jump onto the topmost metal beam. Once you succeeded, jump off the beams towards the journey cloth and touch it. Make your way back to the ladder and climb it until you're back at the edge of the large hole. Walk counter-clockwise around the hole and leave the area through the gate. Walk into the tunnel on your right, passing some more metal beams. The next gate is on your left. It's open so you could go in there but there's nothing to do, touch or collect. Worth mentioning is that only one gate is open and it leads to the tunnel opposite to the tunnel with the mouse trap. So, continue walking past the gate, towards a pile of rubble. Stay on the left side and jump onto the ruble to get past it. Keep walking on the left side to get past the metal beams.
A little bit further, around the corner you will find a door with a lever next to it. Pull the lever to open the door. Walk into the room. It is another storage room with barrels. Walk between the barrels on the left side to find a passageway leading to a round stairway. Before walking down the stairs, turn right and follow the corridor until you find a lever. Pull the lever to open a door at the end of the stairway. Walk down the stairs and at the end, turn left. You should see a small passageway leading to another room also filled with barrels.
In the room is nothing interesting to find, just barrels and a chest. Look up to see a few wooden planks above you. It looks like you will have to climb up to get there. Jump onto the metal chest first. From there jump onto the barrels on your left. Now walk toward the barrel lying on its side and jump onto it. Turn around and jump onto the barrels in the corner. From there you can jump onto the stone ledge along the wall. Walk toward the next ledge and jump onto it. At the end of this ledge is the plank. Walk over the plank to reach the ledge on the opposite side of the room. Turn right and walk toward the plank in the middle of the corridor. Walk over the plank to cross the gap in the corridor. At the other side, walk towards the corner and turn right without turning around the corner.
You're standing on a ledge and looking forward you should see the fifth journey cloth. Jump over to the next ledge that is a little below the ledge you're on. From there, climb the stairs, walk to the journey cloth and touch it. Turn around and walk down the ladder. Walk to the other end of this ledge where it is narrow enough to jump down to the level below. Head for the door and use the lever to open it. Leave the room to find yourself in the lava canals area closeby where you started. (The tunnel with the mouse trap.)
Walk along the lava canal to the other side of the structure you just came out from. (It does not matter if you go left or right.) You should see the wooden plank that you passed by the first time you came here. Cross the lava canal and turn left, in the direction of the mouse trap tunnel. Once you've reached the tunnel with the mouse trap, walk past it in the direction of the math stone that you should be able to see at the end of this tunnel. Otherwise, just follow the wooden box floating in the lava canal. This math stone reads: 1 + 1 = 5. It's not getting any better with this one. And it is still unclear what the significance of these stones is.
When facing the math stone, you should see the tunnel with the second journey cloth behind the debris to your right. Turn to the left and walk towards the wall where the chest is standing. Turn towards the math stone and jump onto the arch just underneath the math stone.
To the left of the math stone is a ladder made from stone steps jutting out of the wall, leading up. Climb the ladder and you're back in the upper level tunnels. Turn right and walk around the hole that you just climbed out from. Sometimes your avatar sinks in the ground here until its knees. Make a jump while walking to get your feet above the ground again. Ignore the two open gates as you have been there already. Walk into the long corridor until you are back at the junction. Turn left and walk past the closed gate on your left and past the wooden door. Go through the next open gate on your left. In this area is a dooropening on your left (partly covered by vegetation), some pottery and a ladder going down. The ladder leads to another storage room at the lower lava canals level. Other than some more supplies, there's nothing of interest down there. Head for the dooropening behind the vegetation and climb down the ladder there. You should see another journey cloth in the distance on your left. That's where you will be heading shortly. Turn right and walk towards three colored symbols. They are narayan symbols. Now is the time to put together some of what you found so far.
The narayan symbols were listed in one of the rooms you visited close to the tunnel with the mouse trap. The narayan symbols each represent a word or concept. This puzzle only uses one letter of each word except the narayan symbol that represents the word void, in which case two letters are used. Some of the letters on the narayan symbol list were blackened. The order in which they appeared on the list was: L, VO, A, C, T and I. Combine these letters with another hint you found in the room with the gears. That was a picture of the Voltaic Age. The blackened letters put in a different order will form the word Voltaic nicely. But there are only three symbols here. Where are the others? If you walk towards the round stairway you should be able to see them from the right angle. The stairway is broken so you will have to get there another way. Start with the three symbols you have here. Press each of the symbols in the following order: blue, purple and green. Nothing seems to happen yet.
Leave the area by climbing up the ladder, back to the room with the open gate. Walk through the gate and turn right. Walk to the wooden door. On the left side is a button to open the door. Push it and walk through the door. This room also has three narayan symbols. You will have to make a few jumps to get to them. First, walk to the left and jump on the platform with the blue button. This button will have to be pushed after you have pushed the other two. Walk towards the wall and jump over to the platform on your right, where the other two symbols are. Press the green symbol, then the purple one. Turn to the left and do a running jump to get to the last symbol. After you pressed the blue symbol turn left and you should see a gate opening. Walk through it before it closes again. Turn right and walk towards the round hole in the middle of the room. Climb down the ladder.
The room you're in has some barrels, painting and some stone reliefs. Behind the stone relief with an owl on it is a hidden passage. Walk through the passage. On your left is a ladder. Walk towards it and climb the ladder. When you've reached the top, walk towards the corner of this room and from there turn to the right. You should see a lower platform. Jump onto the lower platform and walk towards the wall with lush green vegetation. Turn right and walk off the platform onto another platform below the one you're on now. (No need to jump here.) The lowest platform has the appearance of being a dead end. However, the journey cloth cannot be reached from any of the other platforms, so there has to be a way... Search the wall at about halfway this platform. There's yet another hidden button on the wall. Push it and turn around. You should see several rocks rising from the lava. Oh yeah, this area requires you to do even more acrobatics than before. You will have to jump from rock to rock until you've reached the platform with the journey cloth. Once there, touch the sixth cloth.
To the right of the journey cloth is another hidden button that will raise the rocks again. But it's no use going back that way as there is no way out. Instead, turn to the left. You should see what looks like an elevator. Step onto it but do not yet push the button at the wall. Switch to first person view using F1 first. In third person view the camera will change in a way that prevents you from seeing what you're doing. Now press the button and turn around. When the elevator reaches the upper floor you can walk or run off the elevator. To your left is a red sign telling you to jump. This is not necessary for getting off the elevator, but on the upper level your avatar sometimes sinks in the floor up until its knees. That is what the sign is meant for. To get out of this sunken state, you have to do a forward jump. Simply jumping at one place does not get you out of this sunken state. On your left is a button that will open the door. Push it and leave this room. You're back in the upper floor tunnels. Turn right and walk towards the junction. At the junction take the tunnel on your right, leading back to the hole in the ground where you can reach the lava canals. When you're back there, walk around the hole counter-clockwise and climb down the ladder.
